Transmission Line Ice and Snow Microwave Monitoring Device
I. Overview
Ice accretion on transmission lines is a relatively common line disaster, which frequently occurs in early spring and winter. In addition to temperature, air humidity is also a decisive factor for the occurrence of ice accretion. Whenever an ice accretion disaster occurs, power grid operation and maintenance personnel need to frequently go to the site to measure and record the ice accretion situation. For ice accretion disasters caused by sudden weather changes, it is necessary to record continuously for 24 hours, which is not only heavy in workload but also inefficient. In response to this problem, Telcom has developed the Transmission Line Ice and Snow Microwave Monitoring Device.
II. Working Principle
The front end of the Transmission Line Ice and Snow Microwave Monitoring Device is composed of a video acquisition module, a microwave ice accretion monitoring module, a communication module, a micro-meteorological monitoring module and a main chassis. It can record real-time data such as line ice accretion thickness, ambient temperature, humidity and video, and send the collected data wirelessly to the background monitoring server for storage through the communication module. Customers can access and browse the data in the server at any time through PC or mobile terminal, which is convenient for operation and maintenance personnel to analyze abnormal ice accretion situations in time and formulate de-icing plans immediately to ensure the normal operation of the line.

V. Postscript
The Transmission Line Ice and Snow Microwave Monitoring Device effectively reduces the losses caused by ice accretion disasters, eliminating the need for operation and maintenance personnel to record ice thickness on-site in harsh weather. Its ability to monitor ice accretion on multiple lines simultaneously greatly improves work efficiency. The device also supports viewing historical data in the background, which helps to analyze periods prone to ice accretion, customize ice accretion prevention measures suitable for the local climate, and provide data support for the stable operation of lines in the later stage.
VI. Installation Suggestions
Ice accretion on transmission lines is a regional disaster, and its occurrence depends on temperature and humidity. Therefore, it is recommended to equip a micro-meteorological data acquisition device during installation to provide more data support for the staff to formulate de-icing plans.
